Bio:

A little over 6 years ago:

In a small farming town a week’s journey from Sharn life is simple. Most nights go by uneventfully. The few farmers and townsfolk head to the only tavern around for miles, to unwind and listen to local gossip. Tonight a few strangers have found their way to our little tavern.

As is the way in these small town taverns, children are a common sight. As they sit in their group and enjoy the evening’s games, they can’t help but notice the lone stranger sitting near the fire with his hood covering his face and playing his flute, letting it tell a sorrowful tale. He has a walking stick near him which he had used to lean on as he walked. It was obvious to them that this man was a warrior of some sort for it wasn’t too hard to miss the fact that he was wearing armor underneath his cloak.
Unknown to them, they weren’t the only ones interested in the lone stranger.

“Would you like to hear a story?” he says from under his hood.

All the children quickly gather around the fire excited to hear a story.

“This story, like many others, starts with a woman. However, any good story needs a little bit of background. Our story begins about 26 years ago. Our hero never knew his parents; he was an orphan from as far back as he can remember; and many were back during the war. He lived off of what scraps he could find or steal.

One day, while trying to steal some food from a man he thought was an easy mark, he was caught! This man was no ordinary man you see…. he was a trained Assassin on a mission! Seeing the boy’s attempt, the assassin was impressed and took our young hero in.

Over the years he was trained in the arts of stealth and combat. He slowly became the silent hunter stalking his prey and pouncing on it when it least expected! He was brutal and ruthless.

Now this man, this old assassin, works for the Aundairan Military. He was the leader of a small guild of assassins in the employ of the Royal Eyes. All of his assassins were children he had found just like our hero and he had trained them as well, but our hero was his favourite; he was his first!

As our hero grew older and became trained in the arts of assassination he was sent out on missions. They were simple at first but as he got better they got more and more complex. Our hero never questioned his orders and never failed. Never… until he met her…

So, this is where the story begins. Our Hero, Ashe let’s call him, was given a new assignment. He was to travel to a small town near Wroat and assassinate a woman named Laurana.” At the mention of these names the other 3 strangers in the tavern exchange quick glances, glances seen only by the lone stranger.

“The best way to hit a target is to watch the target and learn it’s routines and weaknesses. And so, Ashe watched Laurana from afar for a few days. Getting to know her just as he had gotten to know all of his other victims. But there was something different about her and it wasn’t that she was was a woman or that she was the most beautiful elf he had ever set eyes on. For he had killed women and elves before without a moment’s pause. His previous victims were mostly all military officers or brutes and scoundrels, she was none of those things. He came to learn that she was a priestess of the Sovereign host and paid special homage to Boldrei, the Goddess of community and family. Laurana was the priestess of the Temple to Boldrei. The temple also served as an orphanages with over 20 children in its care. This hit home with Ashe, being an orphan himself. He had to find out more. Why was she slated for death? Why would anyone want a Priestess and Orphanage operator in a small town dead?

Using the skills he had learned from his master, he snuck into the compound and found the letter regarding Laurana. From what Ashe could tell, this wasn’t even a political attack. His master had apparently never worked for Aundair. He was in the private sector and had been contracted by a greedy merchant that simply wanted her land.

‘The master loves me. I’m his favourite. He’ll listen to me.’ Ashe thought.

Instead, after confronting his master and begging him to spare her life, he was punished and ordered to finish the job or someone else will.

Ashe knew what that meant. His master would send in Bastille. A brutal killer who enjoyed his work a little too much; and there would be many casualties. He quickly decides to head to the orphanage and help her escape. He fakes accepting the order and makes his way out.

He gets to the orphanage and heads inside to find her in the kitchen preparing food for the children.

‘Who are you?’

‘My name is Ashe. I’m here to help you.’

‘Help me with what?’

‘Someone was sent to kill you.’

‘Kill me!? Who?’

‘Me.’

She quickly grabs the nearest object, which just happens to be a wooden spoon, and attacks Ashe.

‘Laurana listen to me! If I was going to kill you you’d already be dead! I’m not going to, I’m here to help.’

She stops hitting him while he quickly explains the circumstances to her.

‘Gather your things and let’s go.’

‘What about the children?’

‘Forget them they’ll be fine! They need to learn to rely on themselves.’

‘No! I won’t leave without them!

After a long pause our hero finally gives in.

‘Fine, I know a place a few weeks from the city where we’ll all be safe. They don’t know about it.’

The hideout proves to be safe and a few weeks go by uneventfully. Ashe gets a job in the nearby city working for the town guard making enough for what supplies and food they need.

More time passes and during this time Laurana and Ashe grow closer and closer to each other. Him falling in love with her gentle and loving nature and her seeing past his gruff and cold exterior. She would see him when he thought she wasn’t looking caring for and helping the children even though he would always say that they needed to be self-sufficient. Or the way he played his flute for them at night when they all sat around the fire before bed. Laurana’s eyes used to light up every time Ashe played the flute and so, over the years, he played it for her every chance he got.

One day, after work, Ashe comes home to find Laurana crying and finds out that she lost her pendant to Boldrei, a symbol of her faith, down the river while she was playing with the children.

Days of searching for it later and he was unable to find it, so he decides to make one a new one for her. He secretly works on it for days and makes it of the shiniest silver he could find. On the back he engraved a small sentence as a joke to his beloved: Do not wear near water.”

“Is it kind of like that one you’re wearing around your neck?” asks one of the children pointing to a glint of silver that had fallen out of the stranger’s cloak. “Except yours is kinda burned.”

The stranger quickly grabs the pendant around his neck and tucks it back into his shirt.

"Yes.. something like that. Now.. on with the story.

Close to 5 Years go by and Laurana and Ashe become good friends with many of the townsfolk. Ashe especially becomes close friends with Samar the captain of the guard.

Time passes by slowly and it has a way of making people forget.

On his way home one night, Ashe notices movement up ahead and hurries to his home. When he gets there, he finds Bastille standing at the door waiting.

‘Hello Brother. It didn’t have to be this way Ashe. You really hurt The Old Man.’

‘What do you want Bastille?’

‘Who do you think was there when you left, Ashe? Who do you think had to take the Old Man’s anger at your betrayal? Who do you think payed for your sins? He loved you Ashe! We both did. You were my brother!’

‘So then leave us be. Forget you ever found me… brother.’

‘You know I can’t do that Ashe.’

And with those words he starts walking away.

Ashe rushes to the door and behind him Bastille yells back, “Oh, by the way, the Old Man says hello.”

Ashe opens the door and runs into the house barely a second passes and a huge explosion knocks him back 30 feet into the air out the front door and knocks him unconscious.

When he comes to, he finds himself indoors, in a bed all bandaged up.

‘Relax Ashe.. relax.. You’re gravely injured you need to rest.’

‘Laurana! The children!’

‘I…. I’m sorry Ashe… none of them made it.’

‘Samar! Help me up! I have to go see!’

‘Ashe stay in bed! You’ve been unconscious for the better part of 4 days. We’ve already buried their remains.’

‘This can’t be happening!’

’I’m sorry old friend… Here. I’m sure Laurana would want you to have this.’ In his hand was the burned and charred remains of
the pendant Ashe had made for Laurana.

Well children, it’s about time that I head off."

“No! Wait! What happened to Ashe?”

“Well, Ashe is still out there somewhere looking for the Old Man and Bastille.”

The stranger gets up and leaning on a walking stick makes his way to the door.

The three strangers stand up and follow him out. Once they find themselves in a fairly isolated area, they make their move.

“Hey old timer! How do you know that story?”

The walking stick falls to the ground, the cloak flies off his back. Burn scarred arms reach for two weapons on the man’s back.

“It’s him! Get him!”

Two quick flashes of steel and two of the three are on the ground with their throats bleeding, dead. He looks at the third

“Tell the Old Man I say hello!”

Physical Description

Ashe is 32 years old and stands at 6’0 tall and weighs close to 180 lbs. He has blue feral eyes and the magical and alchemical explosion that scarred him has also turned his hair pure white. He sheds an imposing shadow on the field of battle.

A long black cloak covers most of his neck and body having been burned and scarred horribly in an attempt at his life. Whatever the cloak doesn’t cover is wrapped in bindings. Only the burn scars around his shoulders and upper arms can be seen and that happens only when he takes his cloak off. He could have, of course, healed these burn scars through magical means but he chose not to so he would never forget that day.

His Bastard Swords and Scale Armor are always kept at the ready and he wears a scorched silver amulet which he never takes off around his neck.
