After joining together impromptu to investigate the old tower above the Saerun Road, our heroes rescued a Brelish Lord Major from the clutches of a gang of individuals bearing aberrant dragonmarks. Why they had kidnapped the nobleman was not apparent, and there was little time to learn more as events moved rapidly. The strange runes in the tower proved to be a mark of the Draconic Prophecy which spoke into their minds: “Five stand at the brink of desolation as one against the tempest’s roar.” What is this desolation? The next few minutes may have provided the answer as what came to be known as the Mourning descended upon the nation of Cyre, not a few hundred yards away from them. While the adventurers battled Cyran forces who wished to take the Lord Major, destruction enveloped the country in the wake of the dead-gray mist. A memory they will never forget.
Four years later, they are all assembled again by the same man—this time at his invitation. But before our heroes can get to the nobleman Bren ir’Gadden, they are accosted by one of the men that they rescued that day: ir’Gadden’s aide Aric Blacktree. Apparently the mark of Prophecy etched an aberrant dragonmark on the man—an event that he desired, and even planned. It seems that he arranged for ir’Gadden’s capture in order to escape from the military and to gain the attention of the aberrant House Tarkanan—an organization ever willing to wreak havoc on the power structures in Sharn. Apparently Blacktree was seeking his revenge against the group for their interference in his plans. Luckily, the madman was stopped by their overwhelming force.
